Tomato Sevai

Tomato Sevai is interesting and quick recipe.The tomato flavor makes the sevai tangy, tasty and delicious. Vermicelli Upma is a quick and easy South Indian Breakfast recipe.


Ingredients
Tomato Sevai,tangy tasty
Tomato Sevai
  • 1 cup vermicelli
  • 2 tomatoes finely chopped
  • 1 onion finely chopped 
  •  2 tbsp sambar pwd
  •  curry leaves-few
  •  1 tbsp oil
  •  ½ tsp mustard
  •  1 tsp urad dal
  •  1 tsp channa dal
  •  1/2 tsp jeera
  •  Salt -for taste
  •  peanuts-few roasted
  •  Water-as per inst
  •  Hing-pinch
  •  Turmeric-pinch
  • Coconut-2 tsp (opt)


Method: Add little oil in a pan,roast the vermicelli well and keep it aside. Next add oil,fry the peanuts and keep it aside. Next add mustard seeds, followed by urad dal, channa dal ,and jeera,hing,curry leaves,turmeric and sauté well.Now, add onion fry well. Add tomatoes and cook till it becomes mushy. Add the sambar pwd,salt, and mix.Next add the vermicelli and add boiled water. Cook till the water evaporates. Add the fried peanuts and mix well.
Garnish with coconut. Serve hot.

Kande Pohe (onion avalakki)

Kande Pohe (onion avalakki) is very simple and easy to prepare.It has the nice tangy and spicy flavor , a favorite Mumbai Breakfast.Poha (oggarane avalakki ) or seasoned rice flakes are healthy and easy to digest too, just right for all ages.

Ingredients
1 cup poha (flaked rice /avalakki) 
Onion-2 finely chopped
1 tbsp. oil
1/2 tsp. mustard seeds
1/2 tsp jeera
1/2 tsp. Chana dal
1/2 tsp. Urad Dal
1/2 tbsp Peanut
5-6 green chilies, finely chopped 
Few chopped coriander leaves
Few curry leaves
Hing-pinch
Tumeric-pinch
Salt to taste
1 tbsp. grated fresh coconut (opt)
1 tsp Lemon Juice


Method
Soak the poha in water for 5 minutes. Wash thoroughly and drain the water completely.Heat oil in a pan, fry peanuts and keep it aside then add mustard seeds, after it splutters, add chana dal/urad dal ,jeera, hing, turmeric and stir fry.Add green chillies, curry leaves.Add chopped onions , fry it for a while. Add soaked avalakki, salt and mix well.Add coconut ,coriander leaves , lemon juice , mix carefully.Serve hot.

Rice Rava Upma / Akki tari Uppittu

Rice Rava Upma (traditionally known as Akkitari uppittu in Karnataka) is simple and easy to prepare. A perfect, filling, healthy breakfast recipe. With Avarekayi ,its yummy. Definite worth a try for breakfast during winter months.

Ingredients:

  • Rice rava- 1cup (akki tari)
  • Water - 2 cups
  • Green chillies-6-7 finely chopped
  • Curry leaves-few
  • Avarekayi -1cup (steamed)
  • Oil-2 tbsp
  • Mustard -1/2 tsp
  • Hing- pinch
  • Jeera-1/2 tsp
  • Channa dal-1tsp
  • Urad dal-1tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Roasted cashews-few
  • Freshly grated coconut-1/2 cup
  • Coriander leaves-few

Method: Fry the rava for 10mins and keep it aside. Heat oil in a pan add mustard, jeera when they begin to splutter ,add channa dal and urad dal fry until light brown. Next add ,hing, curry leaves, green chilies and fry. Add fried rava ,salt and mix well next add steamed avarekayi,2 cups of  boiling water. Mix well. Cook till the water is gone. Simmer and close the lid for 2-3 min. Garnish with coriander and coconut and serve Akki Tari Uppittu hot with khara boondi.

You can also add Dhania-Jeera Powder/ Kalamiri Powder for additional spicy flavor.(In case ,the upma seems dry add some more water.)

Coconut Dosa

Coconut Dosa is simple and easy dosa. Blended with fresh coconut and rice, its delicious. Enjoy hot with chutney powder.


Ingredients:

  • Coconut – 1 cup grated
  • Rice-2 cups (soaked well)
  • Poha-handful (soaked)
  • Oil – for making dosa
  • Salt as per taste
Method: Grind soaked rice and poha into smooth batter. Next add salt and coconut and mix well. Let it aside for 1-2 hrs. Spread dosa batter on the tawa, add oil for making dosa. Slowly flip over and let it cook on the other side.

Serve hot with chutney or chutney powder.

Tomato Onion Dosa is a yummy, spicy and  tangy flavored dosa easy to prepare. Enjoy hot.


Ingredients:

  • 2 cups Dosa Batter
  • 1 Tomato
  • 1 Onion
  • (finely chopped)
  • Sambhar pwd-2 tsp
  • Oil
  • mustard-1/2 tsp
  • Jeera-1tsp
  • Hing-pinch
  • Curry leaves-few
  • Salt to taste
  • Few Coriander leaves


Method: Tomato Onion Dosa Recipe

In a kadai,add oil,mustard, jeera, hing, curry leaves, next add onion fry well, add the tomatoes cook till mushy.
Add salt ,sambhar pwd and mix well.
Add this to the dosa batter, add chopped coriander leaves and mix well.
Make dosa.
Serve Tomato Onion Dosa hot with chutney of your choice.

Cucumber Avalakki / Cucumber Poha

Cucumber Poha or Southekayi Avalakki is spicy and quick breakfast recipe.Poha (Oggarane Avalakki ) is easy to cook, adding vegetables to it makes it more nutritious and tasty.This one is with cucumber.

1 cup poha ((flaked rice /avalakki)
1 cucumber(finely chopped)
5-6 green chillies, finely chopped
Salt to taste
For Seasoning:
2 tbsp. oil
1/2 tsp. mustard
1/2 tsp.cumin seeds
1 tsp chana dal
1 tsp. Urad dal
2 tsp. peanuts
Hing- a pinch
Curry leaves-few
Turmeric pwd-pinch

For Garnishing
2 tbsp. grated coconut
Few coriander leaves


Method: Soak the poha in water for 5-10min. Wash  and drain the water completely.
Heat the oil in the pan, fry the peanuts and keep it aside .
Next add seasonings and fry till done.
Add green chillies and cucumber and stir fry.
Once done add the poha and mix well.
Add salt, coconut ,peanuts and coriander leaves to the poha.
Mix well  and serve hot.

Tomato Upma is very simple and easy to prepare. It has a nice tangy and spicy flavor.

Ingredients:


  • Upma Rava/Semolina - 1 Cup
  • Tomato                     - 1 cup 
  • (finely chopped)
  • Oil                             - 2 tbsp
  • Mustard                    - 1/2 tspn
  • Chana Dal              -1/2 tsp
  • Urad Dal                -1/2 tsp
  • Jeera                      -1/2 tsp
  • Hing                            pinch
  • Turmeric Powder     pinch
  • Curry Leaves            few
  • Coriander Leaves   few
  • Green Chilies            1-2 
  • (finely chopped)
  • Salt         for taste
  • Dhania Jeera pwd    -1/4 tsp
  • Pepper Pwd            -1/4 tsp
  • Rasam Pwd              - 1 tsp


Method: 
Fry the rava until slightly brown and aromatic and set it aside. Boil water. Heat oil in a pan add musturd,cumin seeds when they begin to splutter add channa and urad dal fry  until light brown. Next add hing, curry leaves, green chillies, chopped tomatoes, masala pwds and stir fry well. Add fried rava, salt and mix well, add boiling water. Stir until all the water is gone. Reduce the flame and close the lid for 8 to 10 minutes. Garnish with coriander and serve hot.

Method: Add little oil in a pan, roast the vermicelli well and keep it aside. Next add oil , fry the peanuts and keep it aside. Next add mustard seeds, followed by urad dal, channa dal ,and jeera, hing, green chillies, curry leaves, turmeric and sauté well. Now, add onion fry well. Add salt, fried peanuts and reduce the flame. Add the vermicelli and add boiled water. Cook till the water evaporates. Add the lemon juice .Mix well. Garnish with coconut and coriander leaves. Serve hot.

  • Lemon juice-1tbsp

  • Freshly grated coconut-1/2 cup

Onion Rava Dosa

Onion Rava Dosa is simple and easy breakfast recipe.A favorite South Indian dosa variety.The dosa is thin and crispy and tasty too.Enjoy!


Ingredients:
Onion Rava Dosa , Semolina,rava
Rava Dosa
  • 1/2 cup Chiroti rava (fine rava)
  • 1/4 cup rice flour
  • 1/4 cup maida
  • 1-2 tsp jeera
  • salt to taste
  • Corainder leaves-few chopped
  • Green chillies-5-6 finely chopped
  • water
  • Onion-1 finely chopped
Method-In a bowl,add all the flours,salt ,add water and mix well to make the dosa batter.Next add all the other ingredients-jeera,chillies,onion,coriander leaves.Mix well.Keep it aside for 1/2 hour.Heat the tava/skillet and make the dosas ,add oil to make it crisp and golden brown.Serve hot with chutney or enjoy it JLT!

Gojju Avalakki / Tamarind Poha

Gojju Avalakki / Huli Avalakki or Tamarind Poha  is spicy and tangy easy breakfast recipe. (Gojju is tamarind extract blended with spices) A favorite in Madhwa families. Another Avalakki that can be prepared during Krishna Janmashtmi recipe.


Ingredients:
Gojju Avalakki / Tamarind Poha

  • 1 cup poha ((flaked rice /avalakki)
  • 1/2 tsp. turmeric powder 
  • 2 tbsp. dry shredded coconut
  • 2-3 tbsp. tamarind juice
  • 1-2 tsp grated jaggery
  • 2 tsp Rasam Pwd
  • Salt for taste

 Seasoning:

  • 2-3 tbsp. oil
  • 1/2 tsp mustard 
  • 1 tsp. chana dal
  • 1 tsp. urad dal
  • 2 -3 tbsp. groundnut
  • 1-2 dry red chillies
  • Hing-pinch
  • Curry leaves

Roast and Grind

  • 1 tbsp. cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp. fenugreek seeds
  • 2 tsp. sesame seeds

Garnishing:

  • Dry Coconut

Method: Grind poha in mixer. Soak the poha in water for 5 minutes. Wash thoroughly and drain the water completely. Keep aside. In a  pan, add tamarind juice, jaggery, rasam powder, salt, turmeric and little water. Boil for 5-10 minutes. Next add roasted powder, mix well. Add poha, dry coconut and mix well. Remove from the heat and keep aside.
Heat oil in a pan, fry groundnuts and keep aside, next add the items under seasonings with hing and curry leaves, once done add it to poha mixture and mix well. Enjoy Gojju Avalakki hot with chips.

Tomato Omelette

Tomato omelette is simple and easy recipe. The mix of onion and tomato with spices makes it yummy and tasty.  Also known as Besan ka Cheela a healthy nutritious breakfast.

Ingredients:

  • Tomato -1 large (chopped)
  • Onion -1 medium sized
  • (chopped)
  • Rava - 1-2 tbsp
  • Besan- 1 cup
  • Salt -for taste
  • Red Chilly powder -1/2 tsp
  • Garam Masala-1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1pinch
  • Green chillies -3-4 finely chopped 
  • curry leaves few
  • Jeera -1 tsp
  • Water
  • Bread

Method- In a bowl, add rava, besan flour,next add chopped onion, tomato, coriander leaves, green chillies, jeera, salt add water and mix well to form thick dosa batter. Keep it aside for 1-2 hrs. Make the omelette. Add oil and let it cook well. 

Once done serve hot with chutney or pickle /sauce of your choice or enjoy with bread.

Serving suggestion:

Toast the bread with butter. Cut the omelette in half. Apply chutney on bread and insert the omelette in between. Enjoy Tomato Omelette hot with sauce. Healthy breakfast recipe.

Spicy Noodles is delicious snack recipe.A nutritious combination of various vegetables and spices.Enjoy it hot!!

  • Noodles-1pkt
  • Oil-2tbsp
  • Pepper pwd-1tsp
  • Bhathpwd-2 tbsp (opt)

Method:Boil noodles in a water by adding very little salt. When the noodles are done, strain them and spread it on a plate. In a wok and heat oil add all vegetables and sauté them under high flame.Next add the sauces,salt and pepper and masala pwd and sauté for 1-2 mins. Now add noodles and mix well.Serve hot with tomato sauce.

Ingredients:
1 cup poha ((flaked rice /avalakki)
1 onion, chopped
1 potato boiled and chopped.
5-6 green chillies, finely chopped
Salt to taste
For Seasoning:

1/2 tsp. mustard seeds
1/2 tsp.cumin seeds
1 tsp chana dal
1 tsp. Urad dal
2 tsp. peanuts
Hing- apinch
Curry leaves-few

Mosaru Avalakki ( Dahi Poha ) is made by mixing Poha (flaked rice) with spicy and seasoned yoghurt and is very delicious. Mosaru means curds in Kannada This dish is normally made during Krishna Janamashtmi festival in South India.



Ingredients:

  • 1 cup poha (flaked rice /avalakki) 
  • 1 cup curds
  • 1 tbsp. grated fresh coconut
  • 1 tbsp. oil
  • 1/2 tsp. mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp. chana dal
  • 1/2 tsp. urad dal
  •  Hing-pinch
  • 3-4 green chilies, chopped
  • Few-peanuts
  • 1 tbsp. chopped coriander leaves
  • Few- curry leaves
  • Salt to taste


Method:
Soak the poha in water for 5 minutes. Wash thoroughly and drain the water completely.
Add curds, and salt to the poha. Keep aside. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, after it splutters, add chana dal,urad dal,hing and stir fry.Add fried peanuts(opt).
Add green chillies, curry leaves fry it for a while. 
Add this seasoning to poha mixture and mix well.
Add coconut, coriander leaves.Mix and Serve.

BreadUpma / Bread Upit

Bread Upma recipe is quick and easy to prepare-spicy and yummy to taste. If you are bored of sandwiches this is an interesting recipe that can be made with Bread. Healthy and delicious blended with spices and vegetables, it is a quick breakfast delight.


 Ingredients


Bread Upma
  •  Bread 8 slices
  •  (remove sides and cut into small pieces)
  • Onion finely chopped 1
  • Capsicum finely chopped 1
  • Chilli powder 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander powder 1/2 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Hing a pinch
  • Turmeric powder a pinch
  • Oil 3 tsp
  • Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin -1/2 tsp
  • Urad dal 1/2 tsp
  • Chana dal 1/2tsp
  • Curry leaves a sprig
  • Peanut-2 tbsp
  • Coriander leaves few
  • Lemon juice-1 tsp
  • Fresh grated coconut-1 tbsp


Method:


Add oil to pan fry peanut and keep aside next add mustard seeds, cumin, chana dal, urad dal, hing,  curry leaves once done. Add onions and capsicum and fry. Add salt, chilly powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder and fry for a couple of minutes. Add the bread pieces. Garnish with peanuts,chopped cilantro, coconut and lemon juice. Serve hot.

Next add onion, hing,  curry leaves, green chillies and fry. Add fried rava salt and mix well next add boiled avarekaalu, 2 cups of  boiling water. Stir until all the water is gone. Add lemon juice. Reduce the flame and close the lid for 8 to 10 minutes. Garnish with coriander and coconut and serve hot.

Ingredients:
· 2 cups vermicelli
· 1 cup simla mirch chopped
· 1 onion chopped 
· 6-7 green chillies chopped
· few curry leaves
· 1 tbsp oil
· ½ tsp mustard seeds
.1/2 tsp Jeera
· 1 tsp urad dal
· 1 tsp channa dal

· 3 tbsp grated coconut

Method:
  • Add 1 tsp oil to a broad pan, when oil is hot, add vermicelli and roast till vermicelli turns golden brown.
  • Keep the vermicelli aside.
  • Next in a pan, add oil. When oil is hot, add mustard seeds, followed by urad dal, channa dal ,and jeera.Meanwhile boil water.
  • Add chopped green chillies, hing ,curry leaves and sauté .
  • Now, add onion,capsicum fry again till onion turns golden brown.
  • Add salt,  and reduce the flame. Add the vermicelli and add boiled water.
  • Cook till the water is absorbed.
  • Garnish it with fried peanuts,coriander leaves and coconut and serve hot.
