Nellikai Rice or Gooseberry (Amla) Rice, Nellikai Chitranna is tangy rice-a simple pot meal. It gets its taste from the alma and spices. (an exclusive recipe of my MIL)
Chitranna is a favorite South Indian Rice variety, you can make variety of chitranna and almost daily and it will be enjoyed by all.
This is a very simple one with goodness of Amla or Nellikai (gooseberry) in kannada. Amla is an immunity booster and is loaded with vitamins and nutrients and can be included in your diet regime.

- Ingredients
- Cooked Rice-1cup
- Gooseberry(Nellikai)-7-8
- Green Chillies – 5-6
- (finely chopped)
- Curry Leaves – few
- Oil – 2 tsp
- Mustard –1tsp
- Jeera-1tsp
- Hing-pinch
- Ground nuts-2 tbsp
- Urad dal – 1 tsp
- Chana dal-1tsp
- Salt-to taste
- Coconut-1 tbsp(opt)
Method:
Grate gooseberry or cut it into small pieces and grind it coarsely.
Roast it in little oil. Allow the rice to cool, spread it on a plate.
Next heat oil in kadai, roast peanuts and keep it aside, next add the other items in seasoning, roast well, once done add the rice to this seasoning.
Add the grated gooseberry, salt, coconut and peanuts and mix well.
Saute for 1-2 mins. Serve Nellikai Chitranna hot with Sandige.
