Beetroot Palya /Beetroot Stir fry (South Indian variety ) is simple and easy to prepare.Very healthy ,colorful since it is sweet in taste kids will love it.

2 beetroots,finely chopped
5-6 Green chillies
1-2 tbsp coconut shreds
salt to taste
1/2 tsp Mustard
1/2 tsp Chana Dal
1/2 Urad dal
1/2 tsp Jeera
 Few curry leaves
Hing Pinch

Method: Cook the beetroot in pressure cooker. Keep aside.In a pan, heat oil and add mustard,chana dal,urad dal,hing,green chillies,curry leaves and fry well.
Once done, add the boiled beetroots ,add salt and mix well.Fry it for 2-3 min on low flame.Garnish with coconut and serve this Beetroot poriyal hot with rasam rice or chapati.

(you can add more grated coconut if req)

Coriander Rice

Coriander rice is simple one pot meal. Coriander leaves (Hara Dhania) is blended with spices to make this delicious rice recipe.

Coriander Rice

Cooked Rice-1cup
Green peas-1/4 cup
Salt - to taste
Fresh coriander leaves 
(hara Dhania)
Shredded Ginger-1 tsp
Green chillies - 4-5
Coconut-1-2 tbsp
Oil - 2 tsp
Chana dal- 1 tsp
Urad dal - 1 tsp
Hing-a pinch
Curry leaves-few

Method: Grind the coriander leaves,coconut,green chillies ,ginger into a fine paste.
Allow the rice to cool ,spread it on a plate.Next heat oil in kadai,roast cashews and keep it aside ,next add the other items in seasoning ,roast well ,once done add the rice to this seasoning.Add the ground paste,salt cashews and mix well.Saute for 1-2 mins.Garnish with coriander leaves.Serve hot with raita of your choice.

Kaju Peas Masala

Kaju Peas Gravy (Cashew nuts with peas) is delectable and rich spicy side dish that can be enjoyed with Indian Breads.

Kaju Peas Masala
Kaju Peas Gravy
1/4 cup Cashew Nuts (roasted)
1/2 cup peas steamed
1 tomato (pureed)
1 /2 tsp Ginger-Garlic Paste

1 tsp dhani jeera pwd
1 tsp red chilli pwd
1 tsp garam masala 
1/2 kasuri methi crushed (everest)
1/2 tbsp Fresh Cream (Opt)
1 tbsp Oil
1/2 tsp jeera
Few Coriander leaves
Salt to taste

For Grinding
1 onion chopped
1/4 tsp  Cinnamon pwd
1-2 Cloves
1-2 green chillies
5-6 cashews
1 pod elachi

Method-Grind all the ingredients listed under grinding list into fine paste with little water. Keep it aside.Heat oil in pan,add oil/ghee ,add jeera,the onion paste and stir on low flame for 5 mins.Next add in the masala pwds,ginger garlic paste and stir for 2-3 mins.Add the tomato puree and mix well.Add salt ,steamed peas and little water and cook for some time.Add the roasted cashew nuts ,let the gravy cook for 5-7 mins on low flame.Garnish with coriander leaves .Serve hot with any Indian Breads.

Kadle Kaalu Usli / Kabuli Chana Usal is a nutritious , quick snack and healthy too.Try it out.It is simple and easy to prepare.You can enjoy with rasam rice or chapati.

1 cup white chickpeas/Kabuli chana
(cooked well)
Grated coconut-2-3 tbsp
Lemon juice-1tsp
Coriander leaves

few Curry leaves
1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
1/2 tsp jeera
1/2 tsp chana dal
1/2 tsp urad dal
5-6 finely chopped  green chillies
Salt -as per taste

Method-Mix the chana with salt .Season with mustard seeds,jeera,chana dal,urad dal, curry leaves, green chilies and hing.Add lemon juice ,fresh grated coconut,coriander leaves and mix well and serve as snack or side dish for chapati or rasam rice.

1 tbsp. oil
1/2 tsp. mustard
1 tsp. chana dal
1 tsp. urad dal
2-3 green chillies
1 spring curry leaves
2 tbsp. grated, coconut
Salt to taste
1 tsp dhania jeera pwd
1/4 tsp pepper pwd

Method:Heat oil in a kadai.Add mustard, allow to splutter, 
add chana dal,urad dal, green chillies,hing.
Fry till light brown, then add curry leaves, carrot, 
sauté till carrots are done.
 Add  grated coconut, salt,masala pwd and mix well.

Serve hot with Chapatis / Rasam Rice.

Chiroti rava 1 cup
Rice flour - 1/2 cup
Maida - 1 tbsp
Curds-3 tbsp
Methi leaves, finally chopped - 1 cup
Coriander leaves-few
green chillies, finely chopped - 5-6
coconut, grated - 2 table spoon
jeera - 1 tsp
salt - as per taste
Coconut-3 tsp(opt)

Method-In a bowl, add rava, rice flour, maida and curds,next add chopped methi leaves, coriander leaves,green chillies ,jeera,salt and grated coconut, add water and mix well to form dosa batter.Keep it aside for 1-2 hrs.Make dosa.Serve hot with chutney of your choice.

Karibevu chutney or Curry leaves Chutney is chutney made from simple curry leaves (kadipatta).Blended with spices it has a unique taste.

  • Curry leaves( Karibevu ) -1/2 cup
  • (cleaned)
  • Grated dry coconut 3-4 tbsp
  • Chana dal 3-4 tbsp
  • Tamarind lemon size
  • Red Chillies-6-7
  • Jaggery-1/2 tsp (opt)
  • Seasoning
  • Mustard-1/2 tsp
  • Hing-pinch
  • Salt-taste

In a kadai,add tsp of oil fry chana dal and red chillies well on low heat.Next add dry coconut and curry leaves and fry .Add tamarind and fry.Set it aside to cool.Grind the above mixture in a smooth paste in a blender.Next add seasoning,
heat oil in a pan, add mustard,hing once done add it to the chutney.Enjoy the chutney
with dosa or idli.

  • Ingredients
  • Cooked Rice-1cup
  • Gooseberry(Nellikai)-7-8
  • Green Chillies – 5-6
  • (finely chopped)
  • Curry Leaves – few
  • Oil – 2 tsp
  • Mustard –1tsp
  • Jeera-1tsp
  • Hing-pinch
  • Ground nuts-2 tbsp
  • Urad dal – 1 tsp
  • Chana dal-1tsp
  • Salt-to taste
  • Coconut-1 tbsp(opt)

Method:Grate gooseberry or cut it into small pieces and grind it coarsely. Roast it in little oil.Allow the rice to cool ,spread it on a plate.Next heat oil in kadai,roast  peanuts and keep it aside ,next add the other items in seasoning ,roast well ,once done add the rice to this seasoning.Add the grated gooseberry,salt,coconut and peanuts and mix well.
Saute for 1-2 mins.Serve hot with Sandige.

Onion Dosa

Onion Dosa or Erruli Dose is easy and tasty.One of the few varieties of dosas that can be enjoyed over the weekend with the available dosa batter.The crispy onion dosa is delicious.

  • Dosa batter 2 cup
  • Onion 1  finely chopped
  • Green chilly 3-4 finely chopped

Method: Mix finely chopped onion,chillies ,salt,jeera,coriander leaves and keep it ready. Spread dosa batter on the tawa , add the chopped ingredients on the top.Add oil for making dosa.Slowly flip over and let it cook on the other side.Serve hot with chutney.

Masala Peas

Green Peas Masala or Masala Peas is a delicious side dish for Indian breads.A blend of spices with coconut added to Green Peas gives a delectable taste.

Peas : 1 Cup Steamed
Green chillies : 4-5 
Ginger : Small piece
Few fresh Coriander Leaves
Cloves : 1-2
Grated Coconut -2 tbsp
Puttani-1 tbsp (hurikadle)
Salt : To taste.
Oil : 1 Tsp
Jeera : 1 Tsp

Chana dal-1 tsp
Urad dal-1 tsp
Mustard-1 tsp
Tumeric pwd-pinch
Curry leaves
Roasted Cashews

Method : Grind coriander leaves, coconut, green chillies, ginger, cloves, puttani seeds and 1/2 spoon of jeera with little water.Heat oil in a pan,add the items in seasoning,once done,add the the ground mix,add the steamed peas,salt and mix well.Let it cook on simmer for 3-4 mins.Keep stirring.Add water if required.Serve hot with chapatis or poori.

1/2  tsp cumin seeds

1 tsp urad dal
6-7 cashew nuts
2 tbsp peanuts
Hing pinch
Green chillies-3-4 chopped
Red chilly-1 (opt)
few Curry leaves
Oil-2 tbsp

Pudina Rice

Pudina Rice (Mint Pulao)  is an easy mint flavored rice .Mint leaves are blended with spices and added with peas and potatoes to make a tasty one pot meal.

1 cup rice
1 potato,boiled and chopped
1/2 cup peas steamed
1 cup mint leaves
6-8 green chillies, chopped
1 tsp. ginger
1 tbsp. chopped coriander leaves
1/2 tsp. mustard seeds
1 tsp. cumin seeds
1/2 tsp chana dal
1/2tsp urad dal
Few Cashews nuts
1 tbsp. lemon juice(opt)
Salt to taste
2-3 tbsp. oil

Method: Cook rice and spread it on a plate to cool.Meanwhile ,blend mint leaves,ginger,chillies in smooth paste.Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, jeera, chana dal,urad dal,cashews ,once done ,add mint paste and fry for 10 minutes.Next add potatoes, peas , salt and mix well. Add rice, lemon juice and mix well.Serve hot with raita and papad.

Gojju Avalakki / Tamarind Poha

Gojju Avalakki / Huli Avalakki or Tamarind Poha  is spicy and tangy easy breakfast recipe. (Gojju is tamarind extract blended with spices) A favorite in Madhwa families.Another Avalakki that can be prepared during Krishna Janmashtmi recipe.

Gojju Avalakki / Tamarind Poha , Huli Avalakki, seasoned rice flakes
Gojju Avalakki
1 cup poha ((flaked rice /avalakki)
1/2 tsp. turmeric powder 
2 tbsp. dry shredded coconut
2-3 tbsp. tamarind juice
1-2 tsp grated jaggery
2 tsp Rasam Pwd
Salt for taste

2-3 tbsp. oil
1/2 tsp mustard 
1 tsp. chana dal
1 tsp. urad dal
2 -3 tbsp. groundnut
1-2 dry red chillies
Curry leaves

Roast and Grind
1 tbsp. cumin seeds
1 tsp. fenugreek seeds
2 tsp. sesame seeds

Dry Coconut

Method: Grind poha in mixer.Soak the poha in water for 5 minutes.Wash thoroughly and drain the water completely. Keep aside.In a  pan,add tamarind juice, jaggery, rasam powder, salt, turmeric and little water. Boil for 5-10 minutes. Next add roasted powder,mix well.Add poha, dry coconut and mix well. Remove from the heat and keep aside.
Heat oil in a pan, fry groundnuts and keep aside ,next add the items under seasonings with hing and curry leaves ,once done add it to poha mixture and mix well.Enjoy hot with chips.

Potato Fry/ Stir Fried Potatoes

Potato fry or Stir fried potatoes is tasty and delicious .Potatoes are blended with spices and stir fried.It is very simple and easy to make.Enjoy!!

Potato fry

2 potatoes,sliced
1 tsp red chilli pwd
1 tsp dhania jeera pwd
1/2 chaat masala
Salt to taste
2 tsp Chiroti rava
Oil 3-4 tsp

Method: Wash the  potato slices in water and drain it out.Add red chilli pwd,chaat masala,dhania jeera pwd,salt and mix the potatoes well. It should be fully coated.Sprinkle rava on the top.Heat oil in pan/tava ,now spread the potatoes on the tava.Keep adding oil around the tava.Toss and turn it so it gets crispy.Serve hot with chapati ,rasam rice or enjoy just like that.

(you can also give jeera/mustard seasoning if req)

Peas-1/2 cup steamed

Carrot chopped and boiled 1/2 cup

Cumin seeds 1 tbsp

mustard 1/2 tsp

Pepper pwd-1 tsp

Method: Cook rice and spread on a plate.Heat oil in a pressure pan add mustard and cumin seeds once done,add the boiled peas,carrot and salt sauté for some time.Add the cooked rice pepper pwd and  mix well.Serve hot.Elders can enjoy too with raita or curry.

Method:Boil noodles in a water by adding very little salt. When the noodles are done, strain them and spread it on a plate. In a wok and heat oil add all vegetables and sauté them under high flame.Next add the sauces,salt and pepper and masala pwd and sauté for 1-2 mins. Now add noodles and mix well.Serve hot with tomato sauce.

Coconut chutney with onion

Coconut Onion Chutney blend of coconut with onion and spices,another version of chutney for your Dosas, Idlis or Chapati.

Ingredients :

  • 2 tbsp grated coconut
  • 1 onion
  • 4-5 green chilies
  • 1 tbsp Puttani (roasted gram)
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp urad dal 
  •  1/2 Chana dal
  •  Curry leaves
  •  Tamarind

Method : Grind coconut, green chilies,tamarind,puttani , chopped onions and grind it again to smooth paste adding little water.Heat oil in a kadai ,add mustard, add urad dal,chana dal,curry leaves and fry for a while.Add to chutney.Enjoy the chutney with Dosa.

Corn Methi Pulao

Corn Methi Pulao healthy combination of greens (fenugreek leaves ) and sweet corn,highly nourishing.Enjoy!


Corn Methi Pulao
1 cup basmati rice
1/2 cup sliced onions

3/4 cup (methi) leaves chopped
1/2 cup sweet corn
2-3 black pepper
1/2 tsp jeera
1/2 cinnamon
2 cloves
2 cardamoms
1/2 tsp green chillies
finely chopped
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1 tbsp butter
1 tbsp oil
2 tbsp curds
salt to taste

Wash the rice and keep aside.Heat the butter and oil in a pressure cooker/pan add the pepper,cinnamon, cloves, cardamom and sauté for 1 min.Add the onions and sautéNext add the fenugreek leaves, corn kernels and sauté for 1 minute.Add the rice and 2 cups of hot water, salt, turmeric powder, green chillies and stir for a few seconds.Pressure cook  for 2 whistles. Serve hot with raita of your choice.

Spinach Roti / Palak paratha

Spinach Roti is made from healthy Green Palak leaves.Very nutritious and tasty.

1 cup chopped spinach
1/2 inch ginger
3-4 green chilies

1cup wheat flour/atta
2 tbsp curds
1/2 tsp  cumin seeds/carom seeds
1/2 tsp jeera dhania powder
salt to taste
water to grind

Method-Grind the spinach,ginger and chillies into fine paste with little water.In a bowl,mix the wheat flour,salt curds,masala pwds , jeera add the paste and make a soft dough.Add water if required.Add oil and knead it again and keep it covered for sometime.Make parathas.Heat a skillet (tava) gently, put in the paratha, add oil ,turn on both sides till done.Serve very hot with pickle or curds.
