Bread Manchurian

Bread Manchurian is an interesting snack recipe similar to Gobi/veg Manchurian .This one is easy made from the simple bread.Enjoy this crunchy and tangy snack with kids during vacation.

  • 6-7 bread slices 
  • (cut into small squares)
  • 1/2 tbsp. maida
  • 2 tbsp. cornflour
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • 1 cup capsicum, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 2 green chillies, chopped
  • 1 tsp. soya sauce
  • 1 tsp chilli sauce
  • 1 tsp schezwan sauce
  • 1 tbsp tomato sauce
  • 1/2 tsp. red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp. sugar
  • salt to taste
  • oil 


In a bowl,mix cornflour, maida, pepper, salt with water and keep it aside.Next dip the bread pieces and fry them in oil till golden brown.Next in a kadai ,heat oil ,add the onion, capsicum, green chillies, add ginger  garlic paste and saute.Add the red chilli powder, soya sauce,chilli sauce,schezwan sauce ,tomato sauce ,salt and sugar and mix it well. Add the fried bread slices and mix well so that the bread pieces are nicely coated.Serve immediately.

Bread Besan Fritters is a interesting recipe made from spicy besan batter with  potato sabzi topped on bread . A yummy and crunchy snack is ready in no time.

Besan/gram flour-1 cup
Bread slices
1/2 cup onions (chopped finely)
Green chillies-1-2 (opt)
turmeric pwd-pinch
Red chilli pwd-1/4 tsp
Garam masala-1/4 tsp
Jeera-1/2 tsp
Carom seeds-1/2 tsp
salt as required
water (mixing the batter)

oil- for frying 

    Method- In a bowl, add mix all ingredients except bread and potato sabzi.Add little water and mix well ,ensure no lumps are present .Cut the bread into halves .Take the bread slices,apply the potato sabzi on top of it ,spread the besan batter on the bread slices,using a knife and spread all over.(or dip the bread in the besan batter ) Next heat oil in a kadai ,carefully drop the  bread with the batterside.Once it is slightly brown ,fry the other side.Serve hot with chutney or ketchup.

    Hurlikayi Batani Bhath / Green Beans Peas Rice

    Hurlikayi Batani Bhath / Green Beans Peas Rice is spicy rice variety. An easy one pot meal made with green beans and soft peas blended with masala powder.

    Hurlikayi Batani Bhath 

    • 1 cup Cooked Rice 
    • 1 cup chopped green beans(hurlikayi)
    • 1/2 cup steamed peas
    • salt as per taste
    • Grated coconut-2 tsp


    • 2 tbsp Oil
    • 1 tsp Mustard(sasive)
    • 1/2 tsp chana dal
    • 1/2 tsp urad dal
    • 2-3 tbsp Bhath Masala pwd
    • 5-6 Curry leaves
    • Roasted cashews-Few
    • Turmeric pwd-pinch
    • Hing-pinch

    Method: Allow the rice to cool,spread it on a plate.Heat oil in a kadai. Add mustard seeds,turmeric, curry leaves ,hing,chana dal,urad dal.Once done add chopped green beans to the above seasoning. Saute frequently till.Next add salt, cashews, masala powder. Mix well.Add the cooked rice .Mix well.Cover and cook on low heat.Granish with grated coconut.Serve hot.

    Kala Chana Masala Rice /Kadle Kalu Chitranna

    • 1 cup rice
    • 1/2 cup Kala chana /Kadle Kalu
    •  (pressure cooked with salt)
    • Turmeric pwd-pinch
    • 1 tbsp oil
    • 1/2 tsp groundnut
    • 1/2 tsp jeera
    • 1/2 tsp mustard
    • 1/2 tsp chana dal
    • 1/2 tsp urad dal
    • 1-2 tsp Bhath Masala pwd
    • 1-2 tbsp fresh Coconut
    • Hing-pinch
    • Curry leaves-few
    • salt to taste

    Method- Cook the rice and spread it on a plate.Cook the chana well.Next in a pan,heat oil,fry peanuts and keep it aside .Next add mustard ,once done,add jeera,chana dal,uraddal,curry leaves ,turmeric ,hing and  fry .Add the bhath pwd ,salt ,peanut and mix .Next add the cooked rice,cooked chana and mix well.Simmer on low heat for 10 mins till all the rice,chana  is blended well with the spices.Serve hot with raita of your choice.

    Ragi Carrot Dosa

    Ragi Carrot Dosa (Ragi : finger millet ) is healthy , nutritious and filling breakfast.Easy to make and enjoyed hot.The carrot with chilies makes it more healthier and colorful.

    Ragi Carrot Dosa


    1 cup Dosa batter

    1 cup finger millet(ragi flour)

    Salt as per taste


    1/2 cup finely chopped onion 
    and grated carrot

    Few Coriander Leaves

    Green chillies-3-4 finely chopped

    Jeera-1 tsp


    In the dosa batter add ragi flour and salt  and mix well.The consistency of batter should be like normal dosa batter .Keep it aside for 1/2 hr. Next mix in vegetables,chillies, jeera, coriander leaves. Make dosas. Serve hot with butter and chutney of your choice.

    White Pumpkin Sihi Kootu / White Pumpkin Gravy  is a South Indian gravy blended with Indian spices.It  can be enjoyed with hot rice or chapati.

    • 1 big cup white pumpkin 
    • or (Buda kumbalakayi)
    • salt to taste
    • Water
    For Grinding
    • 1/2 cup coconut grated
    • 1 tbsp Jeera 
    • 2-3 green chillies
    • 1 tsp Kalamiri
    • 1/2 tsp rice
    • 1/2 tsp Urad dal
    For Seasoning
    • 1 tsp mustard seeds
    • 1 tsp Urad Dal
    • 1 tsp Chana dal
    • Few curry leaves
    • Hing-Pinch 
    • Turmeric-Pinch

    Method - Cut the pumkin into small cubes (remove seeds/skin) In a vessel add water ,add the pumpkin ,salt and cook till done.Meanwhile dry roast the items mentioned under for Grinding.Next grind the items into paste.Add the ground masala to the cooked pumpkin and stir well.Simmer and stir in between till the gravy blends well.Add salt if req.Prepare the seasoning .Heat oil in kadai,add mustard,once done add jeera,chana dal,turmeric,hing,curry leaves.Once done add to the gravy.Serve this Buda kumbalakayi Kootu hot with rice or chapati.

    Sihi Kumbalkayi Huli thovve / Sweet Pumpkin Curry

    Huli Thovve is  another interesting traditional South Indian Curries that can be enjoyed with hot rice.A Karnataka speciality.Spicy with freshly grounded spices and perfect !

    Sihi Kumbalkayi Huli thovve
    • Pumpkin -2 cups (diced sans skin)
    • Toor Dal- 1 cup
    • Turmeric Powder- pinch
    • Tamarind paste-1 tsp
    • Ghee/ Oil- 2 Tsp
    • Curry Leaves- few
    •  Mustard seeds- 1/2 Tsp
    • Hing- a Pinch
    • Jaggery- 1 Tsp
    • Salt- To taste
    To Grind (after roasting)
    • Chana dal-1 tbsp
    • Urad dal-1tbsp
    •  Red chilies-3-4
    • Cinnamon-small piece
    • Jeera-1 tsp
    • Coriander seeds- 1 Tbsp
    • Fenugreek seeds- 1/4 tsp
    • coconut- 2 Tbsp
    • Curry leaves-few

    Method- Wash and cook the pumpkin till soft.Cook the dal in pressure cooker.Next grind the items mentioned under to grind into a paste.In a vessel add the cooked dal, the cooked pumpkin and the ground paste.Next add tamarind paste, jaggery and salt  add water if req , simmer for 10-15 mins.Season with the mustard ,hing and curry leaves.Enjoy this Huli Thovve hot with rice and ghee.

    Peas Masala Gravy II

    Peas Masala Gravy II is another Peas variant that can be enjoyed with Indian Breads.This sabzi is blended in tomato and cashews mix without onion,it is tasty and delicious.

    • Peas - 1 cup (steamed)
    • Tomatoes -1-2
    • Green Chilies - 1-2
    • Cashewnut - few (roasted)
    • Curd - 1 tbsp
    • Chana masala- 2tsp(MTR)
    • Garam masala- 1/2 tsp
    • Dhania jeera pwd-1/2 tsp
    • Kasoori methi -few (crushed)(Everest)
    • Coriander leaves-few
    • Salt - to taste
    • Jeera-1/2 tsp
    • Butter - 1 tbsp
    • Oil - 2 tsp

    Method-Grind tomatoes,chilies .Also grind cashews with curds.Keep it aside.Heat butter in pan,add jeera,saute well,and next add the ground tomato mix add the masala pwds and fry well.Next add the cashew paste and fry .Add the steamed peas ,add water if required ,mix well ,add salt ,and mix and let it simmer for 2-3 mins till the gravy blends in.Add crushed kasuri methi,coriander leaves ,a spoon of cream ,mix and serve hot with Indian breads.
