Onion Jhunka

Simple, spicy, and packed with flavor — Kanda Zhunka, also known as Onion Zunka, is a traditional Maharashtrian recipe made with onions, gram flour (besan), and aromatic spices. This rustic dish pairs perfectly with bhakri and a dollop of thecha, making it a comforting everyday meal that celebrates the true taste of rural Maharashtra. 🌾


Ingredients
 
  • Onion-2 big chopped
  • Gram flour (besan) 3 Tbsp (roasted )
    Onion Jhunka

  • Oil 3 Tbsp
  • Coriander powder 1 Tsp
  • salt to taste
  • Water
  • Chili Pwd-1 tsp

Seasoning
  • Oil 2 Tsp
  • Mustard seeds 1 Tsp
  • Jeera/ Cumin seeds 1 Tsp
  • Hing-Pinch
  • Green Chilies 1

Method

Heat oil for in a frying pan over moderate heat. Add items mentioned in seasoning. Once done add onions and sauté for 1 - 2 min. Add roasted gram flour, coriander powder, chili pwd and salt in a bowl and add to the onions. Keep adding water little by little and stir. Fry over low heat for 10 minutes till the besan and onion blends well with no lumps. 

Serve Zhunka hot with chapati / Bhakri or rasam rice.
