Masala Puri

Masala Puri is a favourite chaat delicacy, this dish is a perfect blend of textures and flavors that capture the essence of Bangalore's street food. Every bite delivers a delicious combination of warmth, spice, sour, and sweet. You will enjoy preparing it for sure!

Ingredients

Gravy
  • peas - 3/4 cup 
    Bangalore Chaat
    Masala Puri 

  • Potatoes-2 


  • To grind
  • Onion - 1 medium size
  • Tomato -1 medium size
  • Green chillies- 2  
  • Fennel seeds-1 tsp
  • Cumin seeds - 3/4 tsp
  • Pudina leaves- few
  • Salt for taste
  • Oil - 1 tbsp
  •  Masala powders
  •    Chilli powder - 1-2 tsp 
  •    Dhania Jeera pwd -2 tsp
  •    Kitchen King masala -1 1/2 tsp 
  •    Oil - 1 tbsp


  Oil-for frying pooris


  For  Serving  
  •  Peas gravy as needed (piping hot)
  •  Crushed pooris-10-12 per plate
  •  Chaat masala
  •  Chilli powder
  •  Cumin powder
  •  Green chutney - 2 tsp
  •  Sweet chutney - 1 tsp
  •  Very finely chopped onions
  • Grated carrot
  •  Coriander leaves finely chopped
  • Sev

Method-

Pressure cook peas and potatoes. Mash the potatoes and keep it aside. Next in a pan, add oil fry onion, tomatoes, chilies, fennel seeds, pudina, add boiled peas. Once cool grind into smooth paste. Next in a kadai, add oil, add jeera, add the masala paste and fry, next add the boiled peas and mashed potatoes and mix. Add dhania jeera pwd, chili pwd, kitchen king masala and mix well. Stir and  add salt, and water, let it boil on low flame till all the masalas blend well. Cover and simmer for 10 mins.




Serving

Take a bowl, Crush the fried pooris , next add the gravy, add chopped tomatoes, onions, add chat masala, chili pwd, next add green chutney, sweet chutney to balance the spices, add grated carrot, coriander leaves.  Add a generous topping of crunchy sev and few broken pieces of puri on the top, for more texture and crunch and the chaat is ready to serve! Enjoy your Masala Puri immediately..

Adjust the chutneys and spices according to your taste preference. 

You can also add a little bit of finely chopped raw mango or pomegranate seeds for a burst of flavor and color!
