Dal Chapati

Dal Chapati , yes it is an interesting and  wholesome recipe. Made from cooked dal mixed with wheat flour and bingo you have a mildly spiced chapati loaded with nutrients of legumes.




A perfect food for you and your little ones.Enjoy !

Ingredients :

  • 2 cups  wheat atta 
  • 2 cups  toor dal (cooked and mashed well)
  • 1/4 tsp  turmeric powder 
  • 1/2 tsp Dhania Jeera powder 
  • 1/2 tsp chilli powder 
  • Ghee or oil


Method- Pressure cook the dal with turmeric .Once cool , mash it well.In a bowl , add the flour,masala pwd,salt and mix it .Next add the cooked and mashed dal into this flour and knead it well to make a soft dough. Add little oil and knead it well.Keep it aside for 30 mins.Make chapatis.Heat a skillet (tava) , gently put in the chapati add oil ,turn on both sides till done.
Serve hot with any sabzi or gravy.

Bittergourd fritters

Bitter gourd fritters is an interesting recipe, perfect for rainy season. Slightly bitter and spiced, blended in Gram flour , it has a unique taste. Try it out. Bitter gourd is known as Hagalkaayi in Kannada or Karela in Hindi.

Hagalkaayi Bonda

Ingredients

  • Bittergourd / Hagalkaayi / Karela               - 3 nos
  • (washed and cut into thin round rings)
  • Besan/Gram flour                                      - ½ cup
  • Rice flour                                              - 3 tsp
  • Red chilly pwd                                      - 1 tsp
  • Chat masala pwd                                   - ¼ tsp
  • Oil to deep fry
  • Salt to taste  

Method- In a bowl , add the sliced Bitter gourd rings and sprinkle salt on them. Leave it for some time. This will release water and bitterness. Meanwhile in a bowl, take gram flour, rice flour, red chilly pwd, chat masala, salt and mix. Slowly add water and mix. Heat little oil and add this to the besan mix. Add the  bitter gourd rings to the flour mix. In a deep pan, heat oil for frying. Carefully drop the coated rings in the oil. Fry these well on both sides.

Once done, drain the oil and place Hagalkaayi Bonda on paper napkin. Enjoy hot.

Ingredients  

Capsicum(finely chopped) - 1/2 cup
 Tomatoes(finely chopped) - 1/2 cup
 Onions(finely chopped) - 1/2 cup
Pepper pwd-1/2 tsp
 Green chillies(finely chopped) - 2 
 Salt - to taste.
Italian seasoning-to taste
Chaat masala-to taste
Butter
Bread
Mozarella Cheese
Green chutney

Method:

In a bowl, add chopped capsicum, tomatoes, onions, green chillies, salt, pepper powder,seasoning in a bowl and mix it well. Next add Mozzarella cheese and mix it again. Take bread slice and apply green chutney and butter. Place this mix on the bread slice, cover this with one more bread slice. Toast it in the toaster. Serve hot with tomato ketchup.

Karela Masala

Karela Masala  is an interesting and healthy gravy that you can enjoy with  Indian breads or rice. It is delicious and simple to cook. Karela is known as Bitter Gourd or Hagalkaayi in kannada. It is very nutritious and tasty. Try it out.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup karela (finely chopped)
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tomato finely chopped
  • 1/2  green chilly chopped
  • 1/2 tsp jeera
  • 1/2 tsp mustard
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli
  • pwd
  • Turmeric pwd -pinch
  • 1/2 tsp dhania
  • jeera pwd
  • 1 tsp Bhath pwd 
  • 1-2 tsp tamarind paste
  • 2 tsp jaggery pwd
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • Curry leaves-few
  • Coriander leaves-few


  • Method-In a kadai, add little oil , fry
     karela well  and keep it aside. Next in a pan,heat oil ,add jeera,mustard, chopped onions, green chillies and curry leaves and saute for 2-3 mins. Add the chopped tomatoes and masala pwds and fry well. Add little water and cook for 1-2 mins. Next add the fried karela and mix.  Simmer for 2-3 mins till the gravy blends well stirring occasionally. Garnish with coriander leaves . Serve hot with rice or rotis.

    Tomato Chutney Ver III


  • Tomato chutney is tangy and spicy. Easy to prepare. Taste yummy with bread or dosa alike. Tomatoes are low in calories and rich in vitamins. Tomato is an important source of vitamin C, beta-carotene, folate, and potassium for body. Do include in your diet.
  • TOMATO CHUTNEY
    Tomato Chutney

    Ingredients:-

    • 5-6 – Tomatoes (chopped)
    • 1/2 tsp -Ginger paste
    • 1-2 – Green Chillies
    • 1-2 tsp Sarin Pudi
    • Pinch of Asafoetida
    • 1/2 tsp pepper pwd
    • 1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds
    • 1/2 tsp – Mustard Seeds
    • Few-Curry Leaves
    • 1/2 tsp- Turmeric
    • Salt As Required
    • 1 tsp – Sugar
    • few- Coriander Leaves(finely chopped)
    • 1-2 tbsp Oil

  • Method- In a pan, heat oil, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, ginger paste, asafoetida,curry leaves,turmeric. Once done add tomatoes and green chillies and stir well for 10 mins. Add water. Next add the masala pwd, sugar, salt and mix well. Add coriander leaves. Let till boil, slowly the mix will thicken. Enjoy with chapati or bread or dosa.
