Healthy Dining Rituals

Few Dining prerequisites for a healthier lifestyle-


  • Always have a set allotted time to have dinner with your family. 

    It is a beautiful half an hour of your life that you should give which will make a lot of difference. Dining together helps in great bonding.

  • Never mix work and food or study and food. Even if you have only one table, set it for dinner mode with no books and laptops lying around while eating food. 

    Make your dinner and your body a priority so all of you can enjoy the food in a peaceful and relaxed manner. 

  • Avoid picking calls during dinner time. The call can wait since it's only 30 minutes of your day that you are giving to yourself, to the food prepared so beautifully, and to your family. 

  • Avoid multitasking while eating, a book in one hand, sending messages to your friend, boss, etc. Enjoy the food and give it your full attention and relish its taste. Your body will like you for it. You will feel refreshed. 

  • Plan for dinner and try to cook something nice and easy. Eating junk food or Maggi once in a while is fine, but in the long run, it will affect your health.

  • Never get so carried away in an unwanted stressful conversation, such that the dinner gets cold and dry. Give equal importance to food. Always try to have a pleasant conversation at the dining table.

  • Eat according to your requirements, not more or less. 

    Everything should be moderate - no extra spicy or oily for dinner.

  • Food is the fuel for the body. Make it your priority for better health.

Poha Corn Cutlet

Poha Corn Cutlet is an interesting snack recipe. 

Made from leftover Avalakki or Poha and mixed with potatoes and corn makes it crispy from outside and soft and delicious from inside.

Healthy and tasty, an easy way to get your kids eat vegetables.




















Preparation Time: 15m 
Cooking Time: 30m 
Yield: Serves 8
Recipe Type: Appetiser

Ingredients

  • 2 potato - boiled
  • 1/2 cup Left over Poha
  • 1 cup-sweet corn
  • 2 Green Chillies - finely chopped
  • 1 tsp garam masala pwd
  • 1/2 tsp Dhania Jeera Pwd
  • 1/2 tsp bhath Pwd
  • 1/2 tsp chaat masala
  • 3-5 tbsp Bread crumbs for coating
  • salt for taste
  • Few Coriander leaves
  • Oil for making the cutlet
  • Topping
  • Onion-1/2 cup finely chopped
  • Tomato-1/2 finely chopped
  • 1 tsp red chilli pwd
  • 1/2 tsp lemon juice
  • salt for taste
  • Method -  Cook Potatoes in pressure cooker. Peel and mash the potatoes well. In a bowl, add sweet corn, potatoes, salt, leftover Poha, masala pwds, coriander leaves, salt and mix well. Divide the dough into small balls and shape it into any shape -round or heart shaped. Roll it over the bread crumbs so it is coated well. Keep cutlets to set it well for 5-10 mins. Next heat a pan or tawa add 1 tbsp oil, place 2-3 pieces of cutlet and cook in slow to medium heat until it becomes crusty and brown, turn to other side and cook again until done if needed drizzle some oil, repeat same for rest of pieces.
  • Mix the items mentioned under topping in a bowl. Serve the hot corn cutlet with the toppings and sauce. It tastes delicious, do try it out!

Cabbage Idli

Cabbage Idli is interesting twist to the normal idlis. Soft with a blend of grated cabbage and seasonings gives it a great taste.  Enjoy hot with chutney. 

Idlis are fun. They are soft, fluffy, and easy to prepare. Idlis are nutritous, easy to digest, gluten-free, and rich in probiotics, making it a great option for breakfast or a light meal.

Cabbage Idli

Ingredients : 

  • Idli Batter -3 cups
  • Cabbage : 1 cup grated
  • Green chillies : 1 or 2, chopped
  • Coriander leaves : few chopped
  • Mustard seeds : 1 tsp.
  • Curry Leaves : 5-6 nos.
  • chana dal:1/4 tsp
  • Urad dal:1/4 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • oil:1/2 tsp
  • Chutney pwd:2 tsp 


Method-   In a pan, heat oil. Prepare seasoning with curry leaves, mustard seeds, chana dal urad dal, green chillies once done pour it in the idli batter. Next add chopped coriander leaves, grated cabbage, salt to the batter and mix well. Add chutney pwd and mix. Set for 5 mins.

Apply oil onto the idli plates and pour the batter in a spoon. Steam it in pressure cooker for 15-20 mins on medium flame. 

Serve Cabbage idli hot with ghee, chutney or saagu.

Shredded Cabbage can also be included in your cuisine in various forms like salads, stir-fry, soups and slaw.

Ingredients  


Capsicum(finely chopped) - 1/2 cup
Sweet Corn - 1/2 cup
 Onions(finely chopped) - 1/2 cup
Pepper pwd-1/2 tsp
 Green chillies(finely chopped) - 2 
 Salt - to taste.
Italian seasoning-to taste
Chaat masala-to taste
Butter
Bread
Mozarella Cheese
Green chutney

Method: 

In a bowl, add chopped capsicum, sweet corn, onions, green chilies, salt, pepper powder, seasoning in a bowl and mix it well. Next add Mozzarella cheese and mix it again. Take bread slice and apply green chutney and butter. Place this mix on the bread slice, cover this with one more bread slice. Toast it in the toaster. Serve this sandwich hot with tomato ketchup.

Ingredients
    • 2 cups boiled grated potatoes
    • 1 cup- onions finely chopped
    • 1.5 tsp- garam masala
    • 1 tsp-kitchen king masala
    • Sandwich masala or Chaat masala
    • 8 Bread slices 
    • Butter
    • 1 green chilly finely chopped
    • Salt
    • Green Chutney
    • Ketchup
      Method: Prepare the potato onion stuffing, add salt, masala powders, sandwich masala, chilies, mix well.

      Take bread, apply butter and  green chutney, smear the potato stuffing, top it up with the slices of vegetables, add some chaat masala, cover with another chutney-butter spread bread. 

      Grill in toaster. 

      Serve hot with chutney or ketchup.

      Pizza Cups

      Pizza Cups are interesting and easy recipe to make during rainy days. These mini bites are just hot and melt in mouths. The right mix of veggies, creamy cheese and spices makes it a perfect fun appetizer! Do try it out, your kids will love it too!

      Ingredients

      • Bread Slice-6
      • Veggies- all finely chopped
      • Onion-1
      • Tomato-1
      • Capscium-1
      • Corn- few
      • Italian seasoning
      • Pepper powder
      • Salt
      • Tomato Sauce
      • Mozzarella Cheese- for topping


      Method:  Preheat oven for 200 deg.


      In a bowl, take all the veggies, add pepper powder, salt, Italian seasoning and mix well.


      Next cut the bread slices in circle. 

      In a baking tray, place these circles, apply tomato sauce,
       next add the mixed veggies, load with shredded cheese on top. 

      Place the tray in the preheated oven for 10 mins or till the cheese melts.

      Serve Pizza cups hot with ketchup.

      Seemebadnekai Gravy / Choyate Gravy

      Seemebadnekai Gravy / Choyate Gravy( ಸೀಮೆ ಬದನೇಕಾಯಿ ) is yet another side dish you can make for your chapatis/rotis/rice. It is blend of cumin, coconut and spices. Tasty and healthy.


      Ingredients:

      • 1 cup Seemebadnekayi/Chowchow
        Seemebadnekayi Gravy 

      • (chopped and boiled)
      • Salt as per taste
      • For Grinding
      • Fresh chopped coriander 
      • 1-2 tbsp -Fresh grated coconut
      • 1 tspn-Jeera/cumin seeds
      • 5-6 green chillies

      For Seasoning
      • 1tsp oil
      • 1 tspn mustard seeds
      • 1 tspn chana dal
      • 1 tspn urad dal
      • Hing-pinch
      • Curry leaves

      Method:

      1. Chop the Chow Chow finely and boil it till soft.
      2.Grind jeera, coriander leaves, chillies and coconut into fine paste.
      3.Add it to the boiled chowchow.
      4. Heat the oil on a low flame, add mustard seeds-let it splutter, add urad dal, chana dal ,hing, curry leaves once done add it to the mix and stir well. Enjoy with Chapati or Rice.
