Cucumber Thalipeeth / Kakdi Thalipeeth

Cucumber Thalipeeth aka Kakdi Thalipeeth ( काकडीचे थालिपीठ)  is a healthy and wholesome breakfast that gives you nutrition and calories all in one shot! 

Blend of cucumbers in mix of flours, dash of spices and voilà is a perfect breakfast for your busy day !

          Cucumber Thalipeeth

 Thalipeeth is Indian flat bread variety.


Ingredients

  • Cucumber - 2 (medium sized)
  • Rice flour - 1/4 cup
  • Wheat flour-1/ 4 cup
  • Gram flour (besan) - 1/4 cup
  • Jowar flour -1/4 cup
  • Onion - 1 chopped
  • Cumin seeds (jeera) - 1 tsp
  • Green chillies - 4-5 (chopped finely)
  • Garam masala-1/2 tsp
  • coriander leaves - few
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil 

Method- In a bowl, grate the cucumbers. Next add rice flour, gram flour and the other flours chopped onions, cumin seeds, green chillies, coriander leaves and salt. Mix well with the water from the cucumber. The dough  should be soft. Keep covered for 10 mins.Take 1tsp of oil, smear around a tava, take dough and spread around it.

Keep this on medium heat, cover and after minute ,add oil around sides or so it will be ready to be taken out. If you want more crispy leave it of little longer.

To make another thalipeeth, hold the pan upside down and run cold water all around it, pan will be cool to make another one by this time(be careful while running water onto hot vessel, water will start sizzling as soon as it hits the pan).
Serve this soft thalipeeth hot with chutney /sauce of your choice and dash of butter.

Masala Poha

Masala Poha is very simple and easy to prepare. It has the nice tangy and mildy spiced flavor . Dash of lemon with spices perfect for your breakfast. Poha (oggarane avalakki ) or seasoned rice flakes are healthy and easy to digest too, just right for all ages.

                  Masala Poha

Ingredients
  • 1 cup poha (flaked rice /avalakki) 
  • 1 tbsp. oil
  • 1/2 tsp. mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp. Chana dal
  • 1/2 tsp. Urad Dal
  • 1/2 tbsp Peanut
  • 1-2 green chilies, finely chopped (opt)
  • 1/2 tsp dhania jeera pwd
  • 1/2 tsp Rasam Pwd
  • Few chopped coriander leaves
  • Few curry leaves
  • Hing-pinch
  • Tumeric-pinch
  • Salt to taste
  • Sugar-pinch
  • 1 tbsp. grated fresh coconut (opt)
  • Lemon juice 


Method-Soak the poha in water for 5 minutes. Wash thoroughly and drain the water completely.
Heat oil in a pan, fry peanuts and keep it aside then add mustard seeds, after it splutters, add chana dal/urad dal , hing, turmeric ,curry leaves and stir fry. Add green chillies, sauté well. 
Next add soaked avalakki, salt and mix well. 
Add rasam pwd, coconut , coriander leaves mix carefully. Add lemon juice. Serve Masala Poha hot.

Navaratri

Navaratri  or Dassera is one of the most important festival of Hindus. People worship Durga Devi in Northern India and in South India it is celebrated as Bombe Pooje (Festival of Dolls ) The traditional dolls are arranged in steps form featuring characters of Hindu Mythology. The most important dolls are the Pattada Gombe – the main dolls and a kalash is also placed Goddess Saraswati is also worshipped along with books.Fasting and praying form an important part of this festival.
